How to use it
Nest a bar schedule in five steps
- Load the #4/#5 schedule or start new The preset groups two bar sizes on 20 ft stock in feet and inches. New job keeps your unit and clears the lists.
- One stock row per bar size Type the material name exactly, for example #4 Rebar, with 20 ft (or 60 ft) and the price per bar.
- Enter straight cut lengths Part mark, cut length such as 11' 6", quantity and the same material name. Bent bars go in at their developed straight length.
- Set kerf and the drop to keep 0 for a shear, 1/8" for an abrasive saw. Reusable if ≥ 12" or 24" decides which drops go back on the rack.
- Read one block per size The canvas draws a separate block for each bar size with its own purchase line, yield and drops.

| Size | Nominal dia. (in) | Dia. (mm) | Weight (lb/ft) | Soft-metric | Common stock |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| #3 | 0.375 | 9.5 | 0.376 | #10 | 20 · 30 · 40 · 60 ft |
| #4 | 0.500 | 12.7 | 0.668 | #13 | 20 · 30 · 40 · 60 ft |

Groups
One nesting block per bar size
The material name is the group key. Every part named #4 Rebar goes into stock rows named #4 Rebar, and the same for #5. Each group gets its own lower bound too: here #4 Rebar 18, #5 Rebar 13 bars, against 19 and 13 bought.
Only straight cut lengths are nested. A bent bar goes in at its developed length from the bar list; this tool does not draw bend shapes, compute hooks or check placing requirements.
Purchase
20 ft vs 60 ft stock on the same schedule
| Stock | Bars | Yield | Cost | Weight bought | Reusable ≥ 12" |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 ft: #4 · 19 × 20 ft, #5 · 13 × 20 ft | 32 | 94.2% | $479.00 | 525 lb | 7 |
| 60 ft: #4 · 6 × 60 ft, #5 · 5 × 60 ft | 11 | 91.4% | $506.40 | 553 lb | 5 |
Long bars are not automatically cheaper. The schedule's long cuts, 15' 5" and 11' 6", leave short drops in a 20 ft bar, while a 60 ft bar ends with a longer leftover. At equal price per foot the 20 ft plan saves $27.40. If your supplier discounts mill lengths, type the real price and the comparison updates.
Drops and prices
Reusable drop threshold and price per bar
The drop threshold only changes grading, never the cut plan. At 12" the schedule leaves 7 reusable drops; raise it to 24" and 5 remain, the rest counted as scrap. Pick the length you would actually walk back to the rack for.
Enter prices per bar. For steel tube and bar, a quote per foot times the length works; for rebar sold by weight, multiply price per pound by weight per foot and length. The preset uses $11.80 for a 20 ft #4 bar and $19.60 for #5, so the buy list totals $479.00.

Rebar and steel bar questions
Why is each rebar size its own group?
A #4 piece cannot be cut from a #5 bar. Give every stock row and part the same material name per size and the planner nests each size separately, with its own buy line, yield and drawing block. The preset buys 19 bars of #4 and 13 bars of #5.
Does it work out bends, hooks or laps?
No. It nests straight cut lengths only. Take the developed (straight) cut length of each bar from your bar list or detailer and enter that. Bend deductions, hook lengths, lap splices and code compliance stay with your engineer and placing drawings.
What kerf should I use for rebar?
Enter 0 for a hydraulic rebar shear or cutter-bender, which removes no material. An abrasive chop saw removes about 1/8" and a portable band saw about 1/16". The preset uses 1/8", so its 82 cuts lose 10 1/4" of bar.
Should I buy 20 ft or 60 ft bars?
Try both: change the stock length and the price, and compare. At the same price per foot, this schedule costs $479.00 on 20 ft bars and $506.40 on 60 ft bars, because the 60 ft plan leaves longer drops. Longer bars mean fewer pieces to handle and fewer end drops on long runs.
Which drops are worth keeping?
Many crews keep drops of 12" or 24" and longer for dowels, chairs and short bars. Set Reusable if ≥ to your rule: on the preset, 12" keeps 7 drops and 24" keeps 5. The rest are scrap and go to the recycler.
How do I turn a price per foot or per hundredweight into a price per bar?
Price per bar = price per foot × bar length, or price per pound × weight per foot × bar length. A #4 bar weighs 0.668 lb/ft, so a 20 ft bar is 13.36 lb; at $0.883 per lb that is $11.80 per bar, the preset price.
